Ingredients
  

Burger Patties
  • 1 pound ground beef (made into patties) Can make 4 large patties.
Mushroom Gravy
  • 2 tablespoons butter For sautéing mushrooms.
  • 2 cups sliced fresh mushrooms Any variety can be used.
  • 2 ounces cream cheese For creaminess.
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream Can substitute with half and half.
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1/2 cup gruyere cheese, shredded Swiss cheese is a good alternative.
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup water or beef broth Use whichever you prefer.

Method
 

Preparation of Burger Patties
  1. Shape the ground beef into burgers.
  2. Heat a cast iron skillet over medium-high heat and add the burger patties to the skillet.
  3. Turn the heat down to medium and let them cook undisturbed for about 5 to 7 minutes.
  4. Flip the burgers over and cook for another 5 to 7 minutes, adjusting time based on patty size.
  5. Once done, drain excess grease.
Preparation of Mushroom Gravy
  1. In a separate nonstick skillet, heat butter over medium-high heat.
  2. Add sliced mushrooms and lower heat to medium, sauté until golden brown.
  3. When mushrooms are nearly done, add crushed garlic.
  4. Add cream cheese, cream, onion powder, thyme, salt, and black pepper. Stir until cream cheese melts.
  5. Mix in gruyere cheese until melted.
  6. Finally, stir in sour cream and water or broth until well combined.
  7. Pour sauce over the burgers and heat through for a few more minutes.

Notes

Store any leftovers in an airtight container. Reheat in a skillet or microwave before serving.
