  • 1 lb chicken breast, cut into pieces Use fresh chicken for better texture.
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
  • 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup heavy cream Can substitute with coconut milk or yogurt.
  • 2 tablespoons garam masala
  • Salt and pepper to taste
For Serving
  • Cooked rice or naan Pairs well with the dish.

Method
 

Cooking
  1. In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat.
  2. Add chopped onion and sauté until translucent.
  3. Stir in garlic and ginger, cooking for another minute.
  4. Add chicken pieces and cook until browned.
  5. Pour in the diced tomatoes and add garam masala, salt, and pepper.
  6. Simmer for about 10 minutes until chicken is cooked through.
  7. Stir in heavy cream and simmer for an additional 5 minutes.

Notes

For a spicier version, add chili powder or fresh chilies. To thicken sauce, let it simmer uncovered for a few extra minutes. You can also make Butter Chicken with shrimp or paneer for a vegetarian option.
